Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields? - 12 months and counting

Three companies in Toledo cut staff in the same month. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I am open to a pay cut if the field is stable. How did you choose?

I moved into operations work. The skills carried over and there were more openings than in my old field.
