Whole sector shrinking, should I change fields?

Three companies in Phoenix cut staff in the same month. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I have transferable skills but no direct experience elsewhere. How did you choose?

A short certificate helped me more than a new degree would have. Check what local colleges offer.
