Unemployment ran out before I found work after 18 years as an electrician's helper

My unemployment benefits end in 7 weeks and I have not found work as an electrician's helper. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I wonder about extended programmes or help from local agencies. Did you find short-term work?
