Trimming expenses while I search (update)

I have 9 months of savings and I am trying to stretch them after being let go as a software tester. Any experience at all would help. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. What helped the most?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 9 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
