Trimming expenses while I search

My income dropped to unemployment benefits and my bills have not changed. I am in Sacramento, in case local advice matters. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. What did you cut first?

Ask your utility about hardship programmes. Mine knocked a bit off my bill for several months.

Subscriptions first, then the phone plan. I saved about $600 a year just by switching to a cheaper plan.
