Telling my partner I lost my job - what worked for you?

I was laid off 14 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. Did it get easier afterwards?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
