Telling my partner I lost my job (update)

I was laid off 11 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Atlanta, in case local advice matters. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
