Telling my partner I lost my job, teaching assistant here

I was laid off 11 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Providence, in case local advice matters. I want a plan before I speak. What did you say?

I told my partner the same evening with a simple plan: what happened, what I was doing and what I needed. It was a relief.

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
