Telling my partner I lost my job (Omaha)

I was laid off 19 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Omaha, in case local advice matters. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. What did you say?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
