Telling my partner I lost my job - any advice?

I was laid off 9 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
