Telling my partner I lost my job - any advice?

I was laid off 14 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. It has been a long 14 weeks. I want a plan before I speak. How did you handle it?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
