Telling my partner I lost my job after 18 years as a payroll clerk

I was laid off 2 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?
