Telling my partner I lost my job after 13 years as a graphic designer

My spouse does not know yet that I was let go as a graphic designer. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. Bills are coming up and I cannot keep this quiet. How did you handle it?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.
