Telling my partner I lost my job - 8 weeks in

I was laid off 8 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Boston, in case local advice matters. I want a plan before I speak. How did you handle it?

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
