Telling my partner I lost my job

I was laid off 17 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. I am in Phoenix, in case local advice matters. I want a plan before I speak. How did you handle it?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 9 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

Do not wait until a bill surprises them. The longer it goes, the harder it gets.
