Telling my partner I lost my job - 3 months and counting

I was laid off 21 weeks ago and have not told my family because I do not want them to worry. It has been a long 21 weeks. I feel ashamed even though the company cut a whole team. How did you handle it?

Shame is common after a layoff even when it is not your fault. Saying it out loud to one person first helped me.

I told my partner the same evening with a simple plan: what happened, what I was doing and what I needed. It was a relief.
