Should I negotiate my severance? - what worked for you?

I was offered 6 weeks of severance after 6 years as a procurement assistant, and I have a few days to sign. It includes health coverage for a couple of months. Should I see a lawyer?

Read the release carefully. Mine included things I did not expect, like a non-compete.

Ask for the offer in writing and do not sign on the spot. A day or two to think is normal.
