Should I negotiate my severance? - what worked for you?

I was offered 9 weeks of severance after 9 years as a paralegal, and I have a few days to sign. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. It includes health coverage for a couple of months. Did anyone negotiate and succeed?

An hour with an employment lawyer cost me a small fee and made me feel much safer about signing.
