Should I negotiate my severance? (update)

I was offered 6 weeks of severance after 6 years as a welding apprentice, and I have a few days to sign. I worked as a welding apprentice before this. There is a non-disparagement clause. Did anyone negotiate and succeed?

Read the release carefully. Mine included things I did not expect, like a non-compete.

An hour with an employment lawyer cost me a small fee and made me feel much safer about signing.
