Should I negotiate my severance? (update)

I was offered 17 weeks of severance after 17 years as a dental hygienist, and I have a few days to sign. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. It includes health coverage for a couple of months. Did anyone negotiate and succeed?

An hour with an employment lawyer cost me a small fee and made me feel much safer about signing.

Ask for the offer in writing and do not sign on the spot. A day or two to think is normal.
