Should I negotiate my severance? - 7 months and counting

I was offered 9 weeks of severance after 9 years as an event coordinator, and I have a few days to sign. I am in Madison, in case local advice matters. There is a non-disparagement clause. Should I see a lawyer?

Ask for the offer in writing and do not sign on the spot. A day or two to think is normal.

Read the release carefully. Mine included things I did not expect, like a non-compete.
