Should I negotiate my severance?

I was offered 10 weeks of severance after 10 years as a medical assistant, and I have a few days to sign. I do not want to leave money on the table. What did you ask for?

Read the release carefully. Mine included things I did not expect, like a non-compete.

Ask for the offer in writing and do not sign on the spot. A day or two to think is normal.
