Severance offer, what should I ask for? - what worked for you?

I was offered 16 weeks of severance after 16 years as a warehouse supervisor, and I have a few days to sign. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I do not want to leave money on the table. Should I see a lawyer?

Read the release carefully. Mine included things I did not expect, like a non-compete.

Ask for the offer in writing and do not sign on the spot. A day or two to think is normal.
