Severance offer, what should I ask for? - what worked for you?

The company sent a severance agreement with a release of claims, and I am unsure what to do. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I do not want to leave money on the table. What did you ask for?

Read the release carefully. Mine included things I did not expect, like a non-compete.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 11 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
