Severance offer, what should I ask for?, customer-service rep here

I was offered 18 weeks of severance after 18 years as a customer-service rep, and I have a few days to sign. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I do not want to leave money on the table. Should I see a lawyer?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 14 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

Ask for the offer in writing and do not sign on the spot. A day or two to think is normal.
