Severance offer, what should I ask for?

I was offered 16 weeks of severance after 16 years as an electrician's helper, and I have a few days to sign. There are 16 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. It includes health coverage for a couple of months.

Read the release carefully. Mine included things I did not expect, like a non-compete.

An hour with an employment lawyer cost me a small fee and made me feel much safer about signing.
