Severance offer, what should I ask for? - 8 weeks in

I was offered 9 weeks of severance after 9 years as a teaching assistant, and I have a few days to sign. It has been a long 8 weeks. I do not want to leave money on the table. Did anyone negotiate and succeed?

An hour with an employment lawyer cost me a small fee and made me feel much safer about signing.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 3 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
