Severance agreement arrived, need a second opinion, line cook here

I was offered 5 weeks of severance after 5 years as a line cook, and I have a few days to sign. I am in Tulsa, in case local advice matters. I do not want to leave money on the table. Did anyone negotiate and succeed?

Ask for the offer in writing and do not sign on the spot. A day or two to think is normal.

Read the release carefully. Mine included things I did not expect, like a non-compete.
