Severance agreement arrived, need a second opinion

I was offered 5 weeks of severance after 5 years as a medical assistant, and I have a few days to sign. It has been a long 21 weeks. I do not want to leave money on the table.

Ask for the offer in writing and do not sign on the spot. A day or two to think is normal.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 6 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
