Making savings last after losing my job - what worked for you?

We are a household of 9 and need to cut costs quickly. I worked as a production planner before this. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. What did you cut first?

Subscriptions first, then the phone plan. I saved about $150 a year just by switching to a cheaper plan.
