Making savings last after losing my job - what worked for you?

We are a household of 12 and need to cut costs quickly. Any experience at all would help. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. Did any lender work with you?

Subscriptions first, then the phone plan. I saved about $150 a year just by switching to a cheaper plan.
