Making savings last after losing my job (update)

We are a household of 15 and need to cut costs quickly. Any experience at all would help. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. What did you cut first?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
