Making savings last after losing my job - any advice?

I have 9 months of savings and I am trying to stretch them after being let go as an accountant. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. What did you cut first?

Ask your utility about hardship programmes. Mine knocked a bit off my bill for several months.
