Making savings last after losing my job - any advice?

I have 8 months of savings and I am trying to stretch them after being let go as a retail manager. It has been weighing on me all week. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. What helped the most?

I called the landlord and the card company early. Both offered a short payment plan, which I did not expect.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
