Making savings last after losing my job - any advice?

We are a household of 10 and need to cut costs quickly. I have been trying to stay organised about it. Rent and the car are the biggest costs. Did any lender work with you?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
