Layoffs across my industry, where did you pivot? - what worked for you?

Three companies in Chicago cut staff in the same month. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. The postings I see are fewer and ask for more. Which areas are hiring?

I moved into operations work. The skills carried over and there were more openings than in my old field.
