Layoff notice, what does the 60 days mean? after 5 years as a quality inspector

My employer announced that the site will close and gave us written notice. I worked as a quality inspector before this. Some colleagues are already leaving. Has anyone been through this?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 12 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
