Layoff notice, what does the 60 days mean? after 17 years as a data-entry clerk

My employer announced that the site will close and gave us written notice. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. Some colleagues are already leaving. Has anyone been through this?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
