Layoff happened 6 days ago, feeling lost (update)

I was let go as a payroll clerk this week and I am still in shock. Any experience at all would help. I have a few weeks of savings and a rent payment due. Which steps were urgent?

Give yourself the first couple of days to be upset. I did, and then I felt able to plan.
