Laid off this week, where do I start? after 8 years as a welding apprentice

They called a meeting on Monday and 8 of us were let go. I had been there 8 years. I am in Atlanta, in case local advice matters. I have not told my family yet. What did you do in the first week?

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.
