Laid off this week, where do I start? after 12 years as a paralegal

I was let go as a paralegal this week and I am still in shock. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I have a box of my things and a short letter about benefits. What did you do in the first week?

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.

Give yourself the first couple of days to be upset. I did, and then I felt able to plan.
