Just got laid off, what should I do first? - what worked for you?

I lost my job as a call-centre agent and I am not sure what to do first. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I have not told my family yet. Is there a checklist I should follow?

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.

Ask for your final pay, unused leave and any documents in writing before you leave, if you still can.
