Just got laid off, what should I do first? - what worked for you?

They called a meeting on Tuesday and 15 of us were let go. I had been there 15 years. I have not told my family yet. What did you do in the first week?

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 8 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
