Just got laid off, what should I do first? (Richmond)

I lost my job as an electrician's helper and I am not sure what to do first. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I have not told my family yet. Which steps were urgent?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 11 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
