Just got laid off, what should I do first? - first time posting

I lost my job as a teaching assistant and I am not sure what to do first. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I have not told my family yet. Is there a checklist I should follow?

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.
