Just got laid off, what should I do first? after 4 years as a mechanic

I lost my job as a mechanic and I am not sure what to do first. There are 4 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I have a few weeks of savings and a rent payment due. What did you do in the first week?

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.
