Just got laid off, what should I do first? after 17 years as a graphic designer

They called a meeting on Tuesday and 17 of us were let go. I had been there 17 years. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I have not told my family yet. Is there a checklist I should follow?

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.

Ask for your final pay, unused leave and any documents in writing before you leave, if you still can.
