Just got laid off, what should I do first? - 9 months and counting

I lost my job as a welding apprentice and I am not sure what to do first. Any experience at all would help. I have a box of my things and a short letter about benefits. Which steps were urgent?

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
