Just got laid off, what should I do first? - 6 weeks in

I lost my job as a teaching assistant and I am not sure what to do first. I worked as a teaching assistant before this. I have not told my family yet. Is there a checklist I should follow?

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
