Just got laid off, what should I do first? - 5 months and counting

They called a meeting on Wednesday and 16 of us were let go. I had been there 16 years. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I have a box of my things and a short letter about benefits. Which steps were urgent?

Ask for your final pay, unused leave and any documents in writing before you leave, if you still can.

File for unemployment right away. Do not wait for severance decisions. The date you file can matter.
